Day 13 - What About Stocks?
Day 13: Been floating all week. Should I just buy stocks instead of hunting for deals? What I realized about BUILDING vs. WAITING. The messy middle of entrepreneurship.
My Teacher told me, today, about a contest he experienced when he was in 7th grade (same grade as me).
He said that in his history class, they had a competition.
Everyone in the class joined a small group (4-6 kids) and formed a "team".
Each team was given $1,000 to buy stocks (any stocks they wanted). Each team could buy one stock or multiple stocks. The team who's stock portfolio was worth the most at the end of the school year won a fancy breakfast in a restaurant at the top of the tallest building in the city.
His team WON!
What Are Stocks?
My Teacher explained it like this: When you buy a stock, you're buying a tiny piece of a company.
- If the company does well, your piece becomes worth more.
- If the company does bad, your piece becomes worth less.
It's like... if Flip-n-Ricky was a company and I sold 100 pieces of it for $40 each, that would be $4,000 total (our current profit).
If someone bought one piece for $40, they'd own 1% of Flip-n-Ricky.
If we grew to be worth $1 million, their piece would now be worth $10,000.
That's basically how stocks work, but with real companies like Apple, Nike, or McDonald's.
Why He's Telling Me This Today
So why did my Teacher bring this up today?
I think because I've been floating all over the place this week.
- Two days ago, I spent 3 hours on Facebook Marketplace and found nothing.
- Yesterday, I played with AI instead of hunting.
- Today? Still no product to flip and I spent several hours looking at Tesla and other AI stocks.
My Teacher said: "Ricky, you have $4,000 sitting there doing nothing. Have you thought about putting it to work while you learn?"
Hmmm, I don't know.
Should I Just Buy Stocks?
What if instead of hunting for products to flip, I just buy stocks?
Here is where I landed today, but I still don't know for sure.
What do you think?
Stocks vs. Flipping: What's the Difference to Me?
Stocks
I loved playing with the AI tool yesterday so what if I just buy Tesla and a few other "AI stocks"? The strategy would be to buy, (and then what). Wait for it to go up, down, or nowhere? I wouldn't be controlling anything other than learning about stocks.
I think my daily journal might turn into an update on my stocks each day. I think you would be bored with that, right?
Flipping
With flipping, I can buy a bike, clean it up, take better photos, write a good listing, and sell it. I control the outcome.
I feel like I'm actually "BUILDING" something.
Something that I hope helps me reach the $1 million goal by October 25, 2026.
Building a Business is HARD
For this to be successful, I'm going to need to learn a few things:
- How to find deals
- How to negotiate good deals
- How to close deals
- How to market and sell products
- How to handle when things go wrong
- How to keep going when I don't feel like it.
Let's wait for now on buying any stocks. Feel like I would be just gambling.
Tomorrow, I'm back at hunting.
The building continues.
Teacher's Notes
Ricky is going through what every entrepreneur goes through. The messy middle.
When you start its exciting. But, then when it gets hard, it starts to wear off.
What Ricky needs now is to find "momentum".
We should also remember what "Flip-n-Ricky" is about. It's not just about flipping products. It's about:
- Building a skill (Ricky is learning to spot value, sell things, help people)
- Building a brand (Ricky's up to 20 subscribers and has visitors reading his journey from all over the world

- Building a story (maybe Ricky inspires others to try entrepreneurship)
- Building relationships (Brand Ambassadors, potential sponsors, customers)
- Building an experience (Ricky still learns stuff in hard days)
The Numbers - Day 13
Money Spent: $65.17
