Day 3 – Racing Against Time

Grandpa's about to sell the boat himself at half price (no profit means no business). I raced home from basketball to take photos and list it before he does.

Day 3 – Racing Against Time

Selling the boat before Grandpa does...

Today, was stressful. Grandpa called and said he's going to put the boat up for sale in his front yard for half of our cost price. Grandpa said that if I could sell the boat for a certain price, he'd give me the profit. This profit is the money I planned to use to start my new business, Flip-n-Ricky.

But, grandpa is about to list the boat for sale at half the cost price leaving me with no profit and therefore NO BUSINESS. He wants to clean out the garage space where the boat sat so he can now store all his lawn and gardening tools.

So, I've got to move faster.

I left basketball practice and raced over to Grandpa's house.

I needed pictures FAST.

I needed to use someone's Facebook marketplace account FAST.

I needed to post the boat to the site FAST.

But, I am at school all day and basketball practice in the evenings.

While Nana was making me a snack, I went to the garage to take photos.

My next step was to write a description for buyers.

My Teacher said that I am 100% NOT to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) to write my daily blogs (the ones that are posted to the Flip-n-Ricky website), but my Teacher encouraged me to use AI tools to help me move faster, as long as I used them responsibly.

This is not the only boat being sold on Facebook Marketplace, so I read through what others were posting and also what prices they were listing the boats at.

They had way more specifications than I had.

So, I googled the manufacturer's specs of the boat for the year, make, and model of the boat.

I tried using "chatGPT" to help me quickly write a Facebook marketplace listing, but it wasn't what I was looking for.

So, I just went with what I could find and quickly wrote a brief description.

Next, I needed to use someone's Facebook Marketplace account since I don't have one. My mom said she would help, so as she took me to school, I sent her all the pictures I had and the description and she agree to post the boat when she got home.

Now we wait, I guess.

But, I don't have much time so I hope we priced it right. I told my mom to price it just under some of the more expensive options. We may have to start dropping the price each day, but I don't know yet. I also debated putting "MUST SELL" in the description, but my mom advised against sounding desperate.

Teacher's Notes:

Entrepreneurship is not a solo journey as you're seeing. It takes a great mindset and a whole lot of resourcefulness to navigating an every changing landscape (meaning the people, problems, and circumstances are change constantly).

Information is everywhere (competition, AI, internet, etc). Choose wisely what you use, believe, and trust.

Anytime you start a business, it's exciting. The true entrepreneurs are the ones who persevere when they hit their first "HARD" spot. You will soon realize that every day is hard and that is the fun part of the journey.

In life, being desperate is never a good place. We live in a place of abundance meaning if someone wins, you can still win. If a door closes, another one will open. If a boat doesn't sell, you'll find another opportunity. A scarcity mindset means that there is only a certain amount to go around. If they win, you lose. If the boat doesn't sell, you lose. Stay in an abudance mindset.
