Day 9 - I Met Another Flipper

Met another teen flipper doing 2-3x returns on Facebook Marketplace. He's better than me, and I'm learning from his strategy. Day 9 insights and market research.

Day 9 - I Met Another Flipper
I met another "Flip-n-Ricky" | Someone doing what I am doing but better

I met another kid yesterday and as we were talking, I started telling him about my Grandpa and selling the boat on Facebook Marketplace. You won't believe this! He is doing the same, but way better than me.

My New Flip-n-Ricky Friend's Strategy

Here is his exact strategy:

  • He spends time looking for good buys on Facebook Marketplace.
  • He can fix stuff so he focuses on a certain items (motorcycles, boats, etc)
  • He makes an immediate low offer for the seller to consider
  • If the seller bites on his offer, he goes in for further negotiation.
  • If he buys the item, he takes it home and adds some type of value to it (fixes it, enhances it, other stuff like that).
  • Then, he resells the item for 2X, 3X, 10X what he paid for it.

He does something else that is great. He has figured out what items people are buying or selling during certain times of the year.

But, he is not doing it as a business.
Just something he does to make extra money.

He has an advantage that I don't have, though.

He's very mechanical and can fix anything.
I don't know how to fix anything.

What Can I Learn From This?

Yesterday, I had a moment of clarity. Flip-n-Ricky could be the brand to help people get rid of the stuff they don't know how to sell.

Meeting him made me realize that there are probably more teenagers doing this same thing.

What if we could:

  • Share what's working (and what's not)
  • Help each other find deals
  • Trade skills (he fixes, I sell, someone else markets, maybe)
  • Build a community of young flippers

Maybe Flip-n-Ricky isn't just MY business.

Maybe it's a movement of teen entrepreneurs helping each other succeed.

I guess we'll see where it goes. For now, I need to find someone who has something to sell and needs my help.

Teacher's Take

  • When you start any business, the first step is to "ATTRACT" your ideal customer. Right now, Ricky is still learning and exploring what direction to take Flip-n-Ricky so just talking to others about his idea, dream, vision is great.
  • Ricky is going through a Market Research phase right now so meeting a fellow Facebook Marketplace flipper is gold and great timing.
  • Humans are meant to be in relationship and Ricky is learning a key formula in business: Connections --> Conversations --> Opportunities
